11-7/8x18-1/8” paper poster promoting the May 3, 1896 issue of the New York newspaper “Sunday World.” Unsigned Art Nouveau-influenced illustration features woman on bicycle with paper lanterns on the handlebars and others suspended from the open parasol she holds. Text below announces 8 features of the upcoming Sunday edition of the newspaper. Most significant is for Richard Outcault’s color comic showcasing his famous Yellow Kid character in an episode for May 3 titled “Moving Day In Hogan’s Alley.” The comic may be seen on the internet at: cartoons.osu.edu/yellowkid/1896/1896.htm. Additional text on the poster promotes cartoons by McDougall and Saalburg plus “Splendid Colored Supplement - Eight Funny Page - Woman’s Fads And Foibles - Zimmerman’s Bicycle Page - All The News From Everywhere.” Upper left corner has small penciled date and corners/margins have slightest trace of dust/age toning.
