Item Description
1.5” white metal by “Davis Birm.” The Baptist Missionary Society was founded in the home of Mrs. Beeby Wallis, Kettering, England on Oct. 2, 1792. The goal was to spread Christianity with the organizational model being the non-denominational Anti-Slavery Society. Of the 14 people in attendance, 5 are shown on this medal. Clockwise, these are “Fuller/Pearce/Sutcliff/Ryland/Carey.” At center of these 5 is a bible surrounded by accent lines. Text surrounding everything reads “Not By Might, Not By Power, But By My Spirit, Saith The Lord. Zech. C. 4, V. 6.” Opposite side seated beneath a palm tree are a black man with bible seated next to a black woman with suckling baby. Text reads “Liberty Peace And Industry/MDCCCXXXVIII.” The tiny details of the black man’s nose and mouth are flattened as are 4 of the noses of the Founders but barely noticeable without magnification. Near full luster. Overall VF.
