5x6-1/8” softcover with a front cover date of Jun. 24, 1912 has 8 pages. Booklet is for Colby College, Waterville, ME baseball game between class of 1906 and class of 1912. First page has nice photo of Coombs with text noting he won championships for Colby in baseball in 1904 and 1906 and signed a contract immediately after the 1906 game to pitch for the Philadelphia American baseball team. Also notes he pitched and won a 24-inning game against the Boston Americans and he won 3 world championship games in 6 days. Second page has photo of 1906 team, third page has photo of 1906 and 1912 managers, centerfold lists player for 1906 and 1912 including Coombs as Captain an pitcher. Next page has photo of 1912 team and the next to last page has Colby football schedule for 1912. Last inside page has photo of “The Royal Café.” Covers are a bit tanned around margin edges, most noticeable on blank back cover. Unused and VF. Rare. Coombs (1882-1957) had his professional pitching debut with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1906. He moved to Brooklyn in 1915 and eventually played his final game with Detroit in 1920. Coombs won a total of 159 games, 80 of those wins coming with the Philadelphia Athletics between 1910 and 1912. He became a coach with Duke University in 1929 and retired in 1952. Both Duke University and Colby College have baseball fields named after him. Nice printed, unique item. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
