Item Description
From same series published by E & S Pub. Co. Chicago. Each is 3.75x5.5” with nice portrait art in center and cartoon images around sides signed by T.S. Lavender card has reference to his Georgia birthplace being 40 miles away from Ty Cobb’s birthplace. Lavender (1884-1960) played with the Chicago Cubs from 1912 to 1916 and with the Phillies in 1917, spending 6 years total as a major league pitcher. Schulte card refers to him winning a prize automobile in 1911 as the most valuable player in the National League in home runs with 21 in 1911. Schulte (1882-1949) played for the Chicago Cubs from 1904 to 1916, the Pittsburgh Pirates 1916-1917, the Philadelphia Phillies in 1917 and the Washington Senators in 1918. He finished the 1911 season with a .300 batting average to become the first player in National League history to win the Most Valuable Player Award. With his 30 doubles, he was a founding member of the 20-20-20 Club. He is one of only four major league baseball players in history to have 20 doubles, 20 triples, 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases. Trace of lt. dust soil, Lavender card has barely noticeable tiny tack hole at center blank top margin edge. VF/Exc. with bright color and great design. Unused. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
