Item Description
3.5x5.5” with photo on front of smiling Jennings with fists in air saying “Wee-A-Ah!” with open touring car in foreground with “Brush” name on side. Text poem at left says “Wee-A-Ah Jennings We All Know Well, The Tigers Play When He Starts To Yell.” Postcard is postmarked Detroit, MI 1910 on reverse. Trace of lt. scattered dust soil. Tiny bit of wear to corner tips. Reverse side is addressed to recipient in Union City, MI in pencil with note. Scarce. Fine. Jennings (1869-1928) was a baseball player and manager from 1891-1925. He was a lead batter and shortstop with Baltimore Orioles teams that won the National League Championships in 1894, 1895 and 1896. He had an average of .335, .386 and .401. In 1896 he was hit by a pitch 51 times, a record that has never been broken. Jennings also played on the Brooklyn Superbas team that won the National League Pennants in 1899 and 1900. He managed the Detroit Tigers from 1907 to 1920. Interesting image. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
