Item Description
Four items c. 1911. Paper supplement photos are each approximately 8x10.5” with blank backs. Postcards are each 3.5x5.5”. First supplement photo and postcard are from “Health & Strength” magazine. Photo has caption “Jack Johnson, Heavy-Weight Champion Of The World.” Postcard has caption at bottom “Jack Johnsen (name misspelled) The Famous Coloured Boxer.” Second set is “Supplement To Double Number Of Boxing.” Photo shows him with caption “Jack Johnson World’s Champion” with additional photo at right of “Bombardier Wells, Champion Of Great Britain.” Postcard has caption “Jack Johnson. The World’s Heavy-Weight Champion” with “Boxing Series” title at top. All 4 photos show him bare-knuckled ready to fight. Trace of lt. dust soil here and there. Paper photos have a few tiny corner creases. First postcard has been postally used. Addressed in ink to recipient in France. All Fine/VF. Nice lot and would make an impressive display if all framed together. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
