4.5x6.25” softcover “Souvenir 1914” booklet for café in Los Angeles has nice photo of smiling Jim Jeffries on front cover with art image of mantle with bottle of spirits at each end. Backcover has text ad “Only The best At Jeff’s-That Means Maier Beer A Heavy Weight Champ For Quality.” Contains 24 pages. First page has nice photo of well-dressed Jeffries. Second page has biography including “He Had 22 Fights And Never Was Defeated Until At Reno, July 4, 1910. Retired From The Ring In 1904 After Defeating Jack Monroe. Forced Back Against His Wishes 6 years Later. Was Boiler Maker For Local Firm Until He Started Boxing. After Retiring, He Bought A Burbank Ranch And Still Owns It. He And Jack Kipper Formed Café Partnership In 1907 And Kipper Sold His Interest To Jack Jeffries In 1911.” Third page lists his fights including knock-out by Jack Johnson on July 4, 1910. Fourth page has photo of brother Jack Jeffries with text noting he was a sparring partner for 12 years. Rest of contents are ads and photos of Los Angeles people and the area. One page has “Kentucky Whiskey” text ad with facsimile signature of Jeffries. Covers have some lt. dust soil and aging. A few lt. cover handling creases. Fine. Rare and first we’ve seen. Postcard is 3-3/8x5-3/8” with nice inside image of bar along with facsimile signature of Jeffries and inset photo of him at lower right. ©1908 by J.J. Jeffries. Reverse side has “Gentlemen’s Café” name and address. Unused and Exc. Unusual Jeffries items. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
