Item Description
9.5x20.75” wooden frame has mat with 6.75x16.5” opening revealing 12 players in full uniforms along with owner and sales manager standing on sidewalk in front of “Willys Knight Overland” car dealership. Players’ sleeves also have name “Jaxon” on left arms. In 1908, John Willys bought the Overland Automotive Division of Standard Wheel Co. and in 1912 re-named it Willys-Overland Motor Co. From 1912-1918 Willys was the second largest producer of automobiles in the United States after the Ford Motor Co. The year this photo was taken, production of the Overland ended and was replaced by the Whippet brand of small cars. Players’ last names and positions are printed in ink at bottom of photo just below player. Back of frame has photocopy of 1926 note noting photo was taken on May 23, 1926 before game with Horton. Frame has trace of wear around corners, vintage mat has 1” area along left side with moisture marks. Photo itself has several hairline vertical creases, overall Fine as framed. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
