Item Description
Late 1890s-early 1900s. 12x13 7/8" cardboard mount has 7.5x9.5" photo in center showing men and women, possibly stand owner with wife and daughter with four rows of "punks" resembling Golliwogs on back wall designed to be knocked down with sign offering “3 balls 5¢”. "Punks" refers to wide array of canvas covered brightly painted figures used in carnival shill games requiring the player to knock them over with a ball. "Igorote Chief Administering Oath" side-show type banner is hanging at top of back wall. Idlewood Amusement Park was located in Richmond, Virginia and mount has “Foster Richmond” photographer text in relief. Mount has tack holes in middle of top and bottom edge, some lt. dust soiling and a few moisture marks. Mat is Fine. Photo itself is Exc. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
