Item Description
14x25.25" wood frame with archival mat has 8x19 3/8" image area. 15 players and manager are standing in uniforms on stadium field with two bat boys with equipment seated in foreground. Photo is by C. H. Poland and has art image at left of equipment and art image at right of equipment along with profile of Indian head. Players include: Bratchi, Cruthers, Ruel, Fentress, Manda, Beall, McColl, Vance, Willett, Prieste, Sie Barger (manager), Blodgett, Vick, Allison, Schmidt, and Dobard. Dazzy Vance (1891-1961) played a decade in the minors before becoming a big league pitcher in 1922 with the Brooklyn Dodgers. His best season was 1924 when he led the National League with 28 wins, 262 strikeouts, and an ERA of 2.16. He won the Most Valuable Player Award that year. By the early 1930s he went from the St. Louis Cardinals to the Cincinnati Reds and back to the Dodgers and retired after the 1935 season. He established a National League record by leading the league in strikeouts in seven consecutive years between 1922 and 1928. Muddy Ruel (1896-1963) had his major league debut as catcher in 1915 for the St. Louis Browns and during his career between 1915 and 1934 he had a batting average of .275 with 1242 hits and 534 RBIs. After retiring he spent 10 years as a coach with the Chicago White Sox from 1935 to 1945, managed the St. Louis Browns and then coached for the Cleveland Indians from 1948 to 1950. Photo has a few lt. handling creases and a .5" tear at center right side edge with a few tiny flakes off bottom margin edge. Overall VF as professionally framed and relief matted. Ready for display.
