Item Description
21.75x29.5" full color mixed medium on stiff paper has wonderful image of Marlin batting. Lower left has bold “Merkin” artist signature. Bright and N. Mint. The Miami Marlins played in the Florida State League from 1962 to 1970 and then again from 1982 to 1988. They were called the Miami Orioles from 1971 to 1981. In 1989 they became the Miami Miracles and then the Ft. Myers Miracles in 1992. Richard Merkin (1938-2009) enjoyed much aclaim as a painter, illustrator, writer and educator. Merkin’s works reside in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution, The Museum of Modern Art and The Whitney Museum among others. He was a regular contributor to The New Yorker, Harper’s, Gentlemens’ Quarterly, and other periodicals as well as a contributing editor for Vanity Fair. Wonderful image by a noted artist who loved the game of baseball and its rich history.
