Item Description
3 items, each 8.5x11". Includes typewritten letter dated July 5, addressed to Mr. Orestes Minoso Chicago White Sox care of Sheridan-Cadillac Hotel in Detroit with text at beginning "My Dear Mr. Minoso: This Is To Advise That You Have Been Selected As One Of The Players To Participate In The 21st All-Star Game To Be Played At Cleveland Stadium, Cleveland On Tuesday July 13th." Third paragraph states "Will You Kindly Arrange To Be In Cleveland For This Assignment And Bring With You Your Home Uniform, Baseball Shoes, Bats, Gloves, And Whatever Other Paraphernalia You Will Need For Playing The Game" and mentions that Casey Stengel will manage the American League team and he has requested that players meet with him in the clubhouse at the stadium at 10 o'clock the morning of the game, July 13th. Letter is signed with nice fountain pen ink signature "Will Harridge" president. Will Harridge was president of the American League from 1931-1958 and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972. Letter has a strong bold signature. Second item is a press release for evening papers of Tuesday, July 6, 1954 with list of players including pitchers Bob Lemon and Edward Ford, catchers including Larry Berra, and outfielders including Orestes Minoso, Mickey Mantle, and Ted Williams. Third item lists coaches and players selected for the team according to clubs with Minoso listed on list of eight Chicago players. Sheets have two horizontal folds through center as mailed o/w Exc. The American League won the game after four years of defeat. Minoso was a nine time all-star, first selected in 1951. Unique and historical. See next item, Minnie Minoso Wilson plaque #1469.
