Item Description
10.75x13.25" with stiff paper covers and 16 stiff paper pages illustrated throughout with superb full color specialty art by cartoonist creator Frank Willard. Front cover has art of Moon w/ sly look on his face dropping his cigar ashes into Lord Plushbottom's top hat which is stiing on table and also holds Plushbottom's gloves and cane. Back cover has photo of Willard smoking pipe at drawing board. Inside front cover has pocket with art of Kayo talking to telegram delivery man and pocket contains facsimiles of six actual telegrams with various August dates sent from various newspaper editors to comic strip editor Arthur W. Crawford extolling the virtues of the Moon Mullins comic strip. Sample text "Moon Mullins Is Easily One Of The Most Popular Comics We've Ever Published. Hal E Mitchell Managing Editor Free Press." Pages alternate between text and graphics and full page images include Emmy Schmaltz, kid brother Kayo, Little Egypt, Lord Plushbottom, and Mamie. Wonderful centerfold has biographical notes and art with various characters. Inside back cover has pocket with Moon talking to Emmy which was originally designed to hold syndicate proofs but none are present. Covers are heavily worn with dust soil and pencil marks, spine has been re-stapled several times and has narrow strip of clear tape. Inside pages have some lt. dust soil and creasing. Overall covers Fair/Good, interior Fine. One of the nicest Moon Mullins paper items ever printed. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA. Additional photos online.
