Item Description
Each is 3.5x5.5" postally unused. First card shows pitcher Bessie Barrett on the mound holding glove and ball above her head. Card has ink note on reverse dating the card to around 1912. Second card shows nine players in action on the field with their names printed next to image. Includes Marie Dierl, Harriett Murphy, Elizabeth Pull, Marguerite Cunningham, Carrie Nation, May Fay, Anna McCann, Selma Walbun, and Mable Bohle. Reverse side has pencil note "Played Pense Mens Ball Team In 1913". Both cards have trace of lt. dust soil with corners a bit rounded. First card has near Exc. appearance. Second card has .25" crease at upper left corner tip. Fine/VF. The first known women's baseball team played at Vassar College in 1866 and barnstorming bloomer girl teams flourished from the 1890s to the 1930s. Wonderful images.
