Item Description
1.5" button with backpaper of Baltimore Badge which includes their 1901 patent date. Paper has a little soil and a pair of tiny holes. The celluloid has two places on the reverse where it did not fold perfectly smooth under the collet and this makes two very small edge bumps when the piece is viewed from the front. Pictured on the front is the Irish nationalist, orator and rebel leader who was born in Dublin. He lead an abortive rebellion against British rule in 1803 and was then executed for high treason. This button reads in full "Annual Outing Irish Nationalists/Cleveland, O./Ireland's Martyr Robert Emmet." Button has some faint stains spots on its outermost perimeter but still displays very nicely and with full gloss. One of the earliest Irish-American buttons and rare.
