Item Description
11 issues. Includes eight issues of “Cosmopolitan”. Each is 6.75x9.75" with an average page count of 120 including ads. Dates are April-November 1897, just missing the last installment of December 1897. Issues comprise the first American printing, which followed the first printing in England by six months to one year and preceded the book publication by one year. Stories have wonderful illustrations by Warwick Goble. Images include aliens and space craft. Other illustrated articles include Delaware’s abolition of the whipping post, the new Congressional Library, news gathering, Gettysburg, and Spanish rule in the Phillippines. Covers have scattered wear with dust soil and edge pieces out here and there, spine of first issue is a neatly done replacement. Insides are clean and tight. Overall covers Good/VG. Contents Fine/VF. Three non-"Cosmopolitan" issues come along as a bonus. Includes August 1927 issue of Amazing Stories illustrated by Paul. Cover is just Fair, contents Good. 8.5x11.75" February 1932 issue of “The Illustrated Love Magazine” with nice front cover art by Shinn of sensuous woman. Contents are nicely printed including rotogravure and includes interview with Wells titled “Love On Mars” which includes two photos of Wells. Issue also includes photos of Jean Harlow, Greta Garbo, and art by Van Buren and John Held Jr. Front cover has 2" tear at lower left side repaired on inside with archival tape, spine has a few tears, overall cover is Fair/Good, inside is Fine. Last magazine is 6 3/8x8.75" issue of “Famous Fantastic Mysteries” for July 1951 with 160 pages. Includes wonderful front cover by Laurence showing woman collapsed on ground with multi-leg alien creature heading towards her as illustration for “The War Of The Worlds”. Story has nice illustration by Finlay. A few lt. cover color rubs with a few lt. creases here and there. Inside pages are very lightly tanned at extreme margin edges. Overall issue is Near Fine.
