Item Description
This is the example used for the photo in Hake Political Buttons Book III listed as #3072. The very thick brass casing is in three distinct levels with a recessed center opening holding a crystal clear totally glossy ferrotype. The metal has the very slightest crease line that shows a little in reflected light but not at all when viewed straight on. The only emulsion defect is a pinpoint dot off the left background. Incredibly glossy and with incredible detail. One of the very few ferrotypes to show Grant in civilian coat and necktie as opposed to his military uniform. Reverse is tin with a shank. A gorgeous piece with Mint brass luster. Rare.
