Item Description
Two sheets, each 4.5x6 5/8" with a total of 12 signatures. Nice collection highlighted by Jesse Owens whose signature stands out at top of one sheet. Other signatures include: Ralph H. Metcalfe, John Henry Lewis, Bill Robinson, Cornelius Johnson, Fritz Pollard Jr., John Woodruff, Jackie Wilson, John Terry, and Jim LaValle. Two other signatures are a bit hard to read but appear to be Arthur Oliver and Tidye Anne Pickett. Owens and Metcalfe were Olympic teammates, respectively taking the Gold and Silver medals in the 100-Meter Race. There is a possibility that these autographs were obtained in person at a 1936 New York City parade honoring Olympians hosted by Mayor LaGuardia. (See previous item1 936 Olympics Card Album # 1190). All signatures are in pencil except for John Henry Simms which is fountain pen ink. Both sheets are evenly tanned, second sheet has .25" piece missing at upper left corner tips but all autographs are VF with bold signatures. From the Richard Merkin collection and comes with Hake’s COA and JSA LOA.
