c. 1941. 11x14" newsstand sign has title at top "What Has Become Of Hal Chase?" with subtitle "Games Greatest First Sacker Rues Mistakes In Relating History" with nice art at right by Bixler showing Chase with foot on bag waiting to catch ball. Lower right corner and bottom edge have lt. moisture mark, front of sign is evenly tanned. Fine. Hal Chase (1883-1947) was a major league first baseman for teams including the Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds and New York Giants and 1916 National League batting champion. Chase was accused of throwing games and he was blackballed from the major leagues in 1919 and effectively thrown out of organized baseball by 1921. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
