Item Description
6.5x8.5" glossy photo shows six players in uniform standing on running board of car with Louisiana dealer plate. One player holds bat and another is wearing glove. Photo is dated 3-16-23 and attached paper credit on reverse is titled "Yankees Players On Their Arrival At Ball Park At New Orleans L.A. For Practice. Some Class!" Shown are Everett Scott, Elmer Smith, Sam Jones, Joe Dugan, Wally Pipp, and manager Miller Huggins. In 1923 the Yankees moved into Yankees Stadium, won their third straight pennant and beat the New York Giants four games to two to win the World Series. Babe Ruth had his highest batting average of his career in 1923 with .393, and it was also the year that Lou Gehrig signed as a free agent with the Yankees. Paper caption on reverse has a few strips of archival tape and is evenly tanned. Photo has several tiny pinpoint indentations at right side, mostly just visible in reflected light. Fine/VF appearance. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
