Item Description
8x10" glossy dated 10-6-37 shows five players in uniform on the field of Yankee stadium with crowd in stands in background. Paper caption text includes "These Five Men, All Italian-Americans, Are Starring In The First Game Of The Worlds Series Today At The Yankee Stadium. They Posed For This Photo Just Before The Start Of The Game." Yankee players include Joe DiMaggio, Frank Crosetti, and Tony Lazzeri. Giants players include Gus Mancuso and Lou Chiozza. Photo has a few lt. handling creases just visible in reflected light and paper caption is a bit brittle with age and has a few splits. Overall Fine. Ink credit stamp on back for International News Photos. Joe DiMaggio and Tony Lazzeri would both hit six home runs in the series which the Yankees won in five games for their second championship in a row. Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig hit his final World Series home run in game four. A classic image. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
