Item Description
14x17" poster has photo of nine pitchers kneeling in stadium dugout with one holding bat. Caption reads "Here Are The Men Who Make Up The Pitching Staff Of The St. Louis Cardinals And On Whose Broad Shoulders Rest The Pennant Hopes Of The Team In Their Close Race With The Brooklyn Dodgers. Left To Right: Shoun, White, Lanier, Warneke, Gumbert, Krist, Cooper, Crouch, Hutchinson." Poster is dated Sept. 1, 1941 and is titled at top "Pictural News Of The Day" with images of two press photographer cameras and was published by Dispatch Photo News Service, Inc. New York. Poster has lt. rippling with 7/8" vertical tear at bottom and few lt. handling creases. Fine. The Cardinals lost the pennant race to the Brooklyn Dodgers, ending the season with a .634 average. Howie Krist won ten games and lost none with an ERA of 4.03. Poster was part of a series created for offices/factories to post at bulletin boards and time clocks for employees enjoyment and benefit. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
