Item Description
c. 1950s originally designed for Post cereals premium offer. First is 6.25x7.5" sheet of semi-transparent paper with concept art for box back in colored pencil offering "Major League Baseball Patch Free! Inside This Package" with image of Milwaukee Braves sample patch and area at bottom showing rough designs for 16 patches. Next is 8.5x11" thin art board with three different designs for "Plastic Baseball Patches With Adhesive Backs". Each is 2.5x2-5/8" India ink and watercolor with some white out. Patches are for Detroit Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Braves. Third original art piece is 2-7/8" dia. India ink and acrylic paint on white paper attached to thin art board with "Detroit Tigers" patch design. The first two art pieces show the origin of this concept but the box back art eventually changed on the finished product box and patches went from square to round die-cut in design. Comes with 18.5x24" "Washington Winesaps" store poster for apples. c. late 1950s for promotion which also offered the same premium patches "Now! In Each Bag". Art boards have trace of lt. aging but all originals will mat and frame to Exc. appearance. Poster has horizontal crease through center as mailed, otherwise bright and Exc. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold, accompanied by a letter to that effect from Gordon Gold.
