8-3/8x17" paper poster with large text "The Best In American Jazz". Poster is for event held June 14 at Town Hall in NYC sponsored by the "CNA/Committee For The Negro In The Arts". List of acts include: "Billy Taylor Trio, Thelonius Monk, Clarence Williams Trio, Conrad Janis and the Tailgate Five". Five lt. horizontal folds as stored. Trace of lt. dust soil and bit of lt. tanning at upper right side. Will mat and frame to Fine appearance. Williams (1910-1981) was an American jazz composer, pianist, and arranger. She wrote hundreds of compositions and recorded more than 100 records. Williams arranged and wrote for band leaders including Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman. She was a teacher, mentor, and friend to Thelonius Monk, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Tadd Dameron, Dizzy Gillespie, and others. Scarce and historic. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
