Item Description
Primary item in this lot is 8.5x11.5” hardcover book printed in Germany by Mulder Verlag. c. late 1950s. Book comes with original dust jacket which has illustrated covers incorporating bw illustration of Josephine Baker and her multi-cultural adopted children. Dust jacket shows moderate wear with chips and tears and area of faint moisture staining at lower left corner and along spine onto upper margin of front cover. VG. Book itself has different and colorful illustrations on front and back covers. Page opposite title page has been boldly signed in blue ink. Book has many great illustrations with German text. Inside pages have scattered age spotting/dust soiling. Remaining pages have some wear at binding but are clean and VF overall. Book itself is Fine+ overall. A rarely seen signed Baker item and the only such copy we've offered in our 46 years. Book comes with related bonus material. First is 7x9” news service photo showing Baker singing at piano while surrounded by orphans. Peter Kreuder plays his song “Rainbow Song” on the piano. “Rainbow Song” basically went hand-in-hand with Baker’s book “The Rainbow Children.” Photo has lt. handling wear with faint crease running horizontally through center. Still displays VF. News service caption indicates children in photo each received a copy of Baker's book "The Rainbow Children." News service stamps on reverse. VF. Comes with 8.25x11-5/8” German program spotlighting Baker’s and Kreuder’s relationship and the development of “Rainbow Song.” Folded horizontally with scattered age spotting on front and back covers.
