Item Description
7.75x9-7/8" glossy photo by Deluxe Studio has instructors with Doan in front row and students with many in various uniforms seated in rows behind them. Photo has caption at bottom including "Hot Springs, Arkansas, Feb 16 to Mch 15, 1933". Instructors have their last names listed in front of them and this includes HOF members Rogers Hornsby, Grover Cleveland Alexander, and George Sisler as well as two others identified as Mann and Ryan. Hornsby is in Cardinals uniform. Photo has a few lt. handling creases just visible in reflected light. VF. Hot Springs, Arkansas became one of the first spring training locations in 1886 and many players visited the area through the years including Babe Ruth. In the 1930s and 1940s many baseball greats taught at Doan's school which drew as many as three to four hundred students for the month long session. Rogers Hornsby took over the school in late 1940s and managed it into the mid-1950s. A clear sharp image likely showing a few future Major League players. An exceptional photo. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
