Item Description
8.5x10" green hardcover album with cover text in gold and has original fabric string-ties at right. Contents are on thin card stock. Contents consist of a nine panel continuous sheet with original green fabric tape along all fold lines. First panel is text relating to this series of cards that were issued in packs of Diaz cigarettes (see items #1222-1225). This album was available by turning in a complete set of 85 cards. The other eight panels have pre-printed images matching the individual cards along with related text of team names and tobacco company information. The back of each panel is blank unlike the individual card backs which have printing. The five key players is this album are Jose Mendez, Oscar Charleston, Cristobal Torriente, John Henry "Pop" Lloyd and Andy Cooper. Other players include Alejandro Oms, Oscar "Heavy" Johnson, Armando Marsans, Bill Holland, Eustaquio "Bombin" Pedroso. Contents have moderate aging. Some scattered age spotting/staining. Each panel has seven tiny insect holes, mostly on margins and all only noticeable upon close inspection. One card per panel is affected by this w/two holes appearing on the image area but none of the "keys" mentioned are affected. The holes that do appear on the images are at top center, all above their heads or on their hats, faces in no way affected. Images overall remain bold. Hardcover has moderate wear/aging, again w/tiny insect holes and some inking. Overall VG. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
