Item Description
From same rare series as item #1240. Superb image of the pitcher in action. He played in Major League baseball from 1915 to 1929 and was on four World Series champion teams. He played for the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, New York Giants. However, he will forever be remember for one very tragic event, he is the only major league pitcher who ever killed a batter with a pitch. The unfortunate victim was Cleveland Indians shortstop Ray Chapman, who was hit in the left temple on August 16, 1920 and died the following morning. Tiny tip off bottom right corner. Otherwise just lt. handling wear really only visible in reflected light. Glossy appearance. Fine. From the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
