Item Description
From the Estate of Peter J. Vorzimmer, co-author of the 1967 NASA Project Gemini Chronology book. See item #1046 for Vorzimmer biography. Glossy photo has been professionally framed and matted to 10.5x13.75" in a 16.5x19.25" brushed aluminum frame w/UV glass. Photo taken during famous space walk by Gordon during which he tethered the command module to the Agena Target Vehicle. Signed in black felt tip pen "To Peter - For a Successful Book! Dick Gordon" referencing Vorzimmer's involvement in NASA's Project Gemini book. Exc. Gemini 11 was launched on Sept. 12, 1966 w/Gordon and Charles "Pete" Conrad Jr. aboard. The mission objectives saw Gordon perform the first-ever direct-ascent (first orbit) rendezvous with an Agena Target Vehicle, use the Agena rocket engine to achieve a world record high-apogee earth orbit, and created a small amount of artificial gravity by spinning the two spacecraft connected by a tether. Gordon also performed two extra-vehicular activities. A great piece from a NASA insider present during the Golden Age of manned space exploration. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA COA.
