Item Description
2x2-5/8" Cuban card issued as a premium by Billiken brand cigars. Cards in this set feature players from the 1923-1924 Cuban Professional League. The set includes 15 cards each for the four teams that participated that season: Almendares, Habana, Marianao, Santa Clara. Glossy front features a bw photo, player's name and team "Lloyd, Habana B.B.C." Clear, sharp image. Back of the card has an ad for "Billiken." Cards in this elusive set are among the scarcest and most popular of the pre-war Cuban issues. This is one of the three most sought after key cards of the set along with Torriente and Charleston. "Pop" Lloyd is rated by Bill James as one of the top 30 baseball players of all time and was known as the "Black Wagner" as a comparison to Honus Wagner. Inducted into the National Baseball HOF in 1977. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
