Item Description
From same set as #1121. Card front reads "Molina, S. Clara B.B.C." Clear, sharp image. José Agustín (Becerra) Molina debuted as a player in 1894-1895 with Matanzas and followed this with stints on several different Cuban teams over the next decade before moving on as a manager and executive in the Cuban and Negro Leagues. He was manager, officer and/or owner of the Cuban Stars for the period 1907-1931. He was also manager of the Santa Clara Leopards including the legendary 1923-1924 team considered one of the greatest Cuban Winter League teams ever which featured Negro League stars Oscar Charleston and Dobie Moore as well as native Cuban greats Alejandro Oms and Jose Mendez. Molina's connections in the US and Cuba helped make a two-way path for Cuban stars to play in the Negro Leagues as well as African-American stars to play in Cuba. He was inducted into the Cuban Baseball HOF in 1942. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
