Item Description
26x32" wood frame w/plexiglass holds 21x27.5" poster. This team existed c. 1904-1912 and poster dates to that time period. Center features the definitive image of Maud in pitching stance. Text includes "Champion Lady Pitcher Of The World/Genuine Redskins From Western Plains And Reservations/Maud Nelson Will Appear In Afternoon Game Only For 2 Innings/The Above Club With Maud Nelson, Famous Female Pitcher, Will Play A Game Of Baseball vs. Your Local Ball Club" and has hand written location of "Walpole N.H." Also marked "Chicago Show Printing Co." Poster has obvious wear. Missing 2x2.5” upper left corner piece and 4x6” area at upper right. Small hole at right center margin and some other scattered tiny holes including one on her face. 3.5” top center tear. Numerous creases/fold lines. Just Good, but restoration could easily be accomplished. Rare, historic and the best item we've encountered for this female legend. This team was owned by Maude’s husband John B. Olson. From the age of 16 when she became a professional pitcher, Maude’s 40 year involvement in baseball covered every aspect of women’s baseball from pitching, playing third base, scouting and owning or managing some of the finest women’s teams to play in the early days. In 1908, one reporter wrote that she was “The Greatest All Round Female Ball Player In Existence.” From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
