Item Description
Original vintage nice quality 5x7" photo w/matte finish on 8x10" cardboard mount. Exceptional image of 15 member team all in dapper attire including hats. Seated on hotel steps with a few other men on porch in background. Hand written in ink on bottom margin of photo is "Palm Beach 1915." This hotel played games against the Royal Poinciana Hotel and both of these historic establishments featured many of the top black baseball stars of the day on their teams. Featured on this Breakers team are four National Baseball HOF members: John Henry "Pop" Lloyd, Louis Santop, Joe "Smokey" Williams and Pete Hill. The other players include Spottswood Poles, Dick Redding, Jude Gans, Leroy Grant, Dicta Johnson, Zack Pettus, Bill Francis and we believe Sam Mongin, Dick Wallace, William “Knux” James, and Jesse Barber. The mount has noticeable margin wear/aging, tip off top right corner and 2.5" sliver off top left. Good. The photo has small trace of margin wear w/tiny .25" piece missing from top left and few other minor surface paper lifts to margin only noticeable upon close inspection. The image area remains bright, clean and very sharp. Fine overall but if matted, image would display Exc. A fantastic photo, one of the best in the entire Merkin collection. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
