Item Description
2.25" deep by 13.5" long by 5.25" tall target set consists of full painted tin base, metal rod which five plastic figures of robots/aliens can swing around as designed when hit. 1953. Base features amazingly detailed hand-painted scene of futuristic city w/ray guns/cannons and rocketships. Painted by Marx factory artists, "Official Rex Mars Planet Patrol" logo at lower right. Plastic figures (each different) have also been hand-painted. Painted text on reverse reads "Mod. 1977 Duplicate - 2-27-53 - Girard" indicating this prototype was made in Girard, PA. Toy still displays Exc. This toy was ultimately produced and uses the art from the base of this prototype. The figures were cast in a metallic plastic. From the John Bowers Collection.
