4-3/8x8.5” Air Mail envelope hand addressed in ink has “M. Sendak” handwritten return address on back from Salzburg, Austria.”Aug. 25, ‘62”. Two sided letter in ballpoint pen on “Hotel Schloss Fuschl” 8.25x11.75” stationery is dated .”Aug. 25, ‘62”. He refers to two books, “Nutshell Library” and “Chicken Soup With Rice” saying “Thank You! For Telling Me About ‘Nutshell’(You Are The Only One Who Took The Trouble To Write Me About It!!) And For Loving Chicken Soup-How Happy You Make Me.” He mentions the news on Wahl’s book “Kitty”, noting “G. Williams Would Be Perfect. Wonderful Blessings On Your Head”. Garth Williams illustrated “Push Kitty”. He mentions “I Suffer With You On Those Questions Concerning War + Horses”. He refers to Harper’s editor Ursula Nordstrom “Ursula Wrote To Say My Rabbit Book Is Fine-But Not A Word From Random House- Or Collier. Enough Grumbling. Forgive Me”. He concludes by noting he enjoys the music where he is but wants to come home, closing “All, All, All, All Wonderful Things Only For You !! Maurice”. Envelope has lt. creasing, letter has three folds as mailed. Overall Fine/VF. Sendak (1928-2012) illustrated Jan Wahl’s "Pleasant Fieldmouse," first published in 1964 and still in print today. Jan Wahl is the author of more than 100 books, some of note include: "Humphrey’s Bear, I Met A Dinosaur" and "Elf Night."
