Item Description
3-5/8x6.25” government envelope has “Maurice Sendak” handwritten return address on back w/NYC address. Contains 5.5x8.5” four page note paper w/three page letter in ballpoint pen dated “Jan. 22, ’63”. He thanks Wahl for the “Grandville In The Marvelous Frame”, then goes on to relate a sad story of a friend. He continues with “These Are Indeed Sad Days & I’m Glad You’re In Toledo- I Think New York Is Contaminated-Thickly Poisoned. I Feel Drugged & Miserable & Overwhelmed- It Must End. Mustn’t It ?” He continues later. “I Do Not Wish To See Anyone Dear To Me Embroiled In The Filthyness Of This Cancer City”. He closes “ Take Care And Again-Much, Much Thanks- Yours Maurice”. Envelope has been torn open at right side, otherwise Fine. Letter has two folds as mailed, otherwise Exc. Full content can be seen on our website.
