Item Description
Modern but vintage style high quality wood frame 13x15.75” with glass over an interior shadow box created by mat and .25” deep matching wood liner to create 8x10” area displaying the document. The paper has two sets of 3/16” punch holes for filing purposes, one set at top and the other on left margin with small paper nick on edge of lowest hole. There is one light vertical fold and two double (about .25” apart at left tapering to a single line at right) horizontal folds with the lower one running below his signature and above his title slightly more visible than the rest. Left of his signature is 1.75” embossed seal “Navy Department United States Of America.” Upper right is 1.5” circular rubber stamp “U.S.S. Connecticut/Commanding Officer Office/Rece (rest not showing) June 29 (9 quite faint) 1918 File No. (no # entered).” Upper left has “The Secretary Of The Navy” both typed and pencil reference numbers “N-32/FJS-M/17829-9” and below is the typed date the letter was sent “June 15, 1918.” In the body next to printed word “To:” is typed “Ensign…/Robert E. Sammons, U.S.N.,/U.S.S. Connecticut,/(Commanding Officer).” Next to printed word “Subject:” is printed “Temporary Appiontment” followed by typed “(Engineering Duty)” next to printed “Enclosure” is printed “Blank Form Of Acceptance And Oath Of Office.” Next two printed paragraphs refer to nomination and confirmation by the Senate and direction of the President of the United States hereby temporarily appointed with typed in words “An Ensign” and date of “1st June” 1918." Below is 4” long steel-tip fountain pen black ink signature “Franklin D. Roosevelt” with the word “Acting” typed in front of the printed title “Secretary Of The Navy.” At bottom is signature of “F.G.
