Item Description
3-5/16X6" thin silk with repeating diamond shaped pattern and particularly fancy vertical and horizontal left and right woven accents along the sides. Listed as Sullivan/Fischer Clay #72, but it is not shown in their book. Illustrations of flag flowing left with twenty six stars above scene of Liberty with implements of industry and agriculture. Text reads "Henry Clay and Theodore Frelinghuysen./Protection To American Industry./Union Without Texas" plus an eight line verse calling for a victory by the Whig party. The upper left edge has 1/8" deep x .5" long fabric break but the material remains in place and the fabric split barely shows. There are three pin holes near the ribbon top. Damage is quite minor considering the extremely fragile nature of this exceptional ribbon which is quite unusual and interesting because depending on the direction of light the diamond accents appear or disappear and even change their silvery color. Rare.
