Auction #208 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1277 in auction 208
Item Description
Stiff card is 3-1/8x3-3/8" and the first example we have seen. The pin is pictured open beneath text "Patent Applied For" and with lower text "To Open, Insert Fingernail Under The Lower Corner. It Will Fly Open." A four digit stock number is written in red ink. Card has six small pinholes plus a somewhat larger hole and several .5" tears beneath the image of the item where it was once fastened. Card back has piece of archival tape across this torn area. The pin itself is 1.25" tall and 1-3/8" wide when opened. This is a superb example with only a single tiny dot off the enamel paint of the flag. The interior has beautiful and essentially Mint luster and the real photos of McKinley & Hobart are totally bright and clean. Hake #3106 with Revised Prices 2004 value for the pin alone of $275.00. Possibly the only card to survive.
