Item Description
1-1/8" overall with large .75" ferro at center. This ferrotype is unlisted in DeWitt but the photo matches Hake #3021. However, this ferro is in gently rounded tin frame with the front beautifully finished in dark blue accented by a few specks of brighter reflective blue color. The tin reverse, with much silver flashing, has 1-1/8" pin with a small metal cut out at the bottom to fix it in position. The ferro surface is smooth and glossy. There are a pair of near microscopic 1/16" hairlines, one on Tilden's cheek and one on his coat lapel which show only in certain light angles. These are exceedingly minor. The ferrotype is truly NM as is the frame. An exceptionally rare use of blue color on a pre-1896 campaign item. Rare.
