1924 TOMAS GUTIERREZ CUBAN TOBACCO ALBUM FEATURING MLB TEAMS/PLAYERS.
Item Description
9x12" fabric covered cardboard album cover with complete amount of 32 pages. This album is rarely offered but we have seen others at auction that have been incomplete but not stated as such, and we must stress, a complete album is 32 pages, two pages per team for all 16 teams that played in the 1924 MLB season. The facing team pages have high gloss finish and feature bw portrait photos of the players, managers and coaches. Page backs have bw Cigar advertising text. This album was issued as a premium by the Tomas Gutierrez Cigar Company. It exists in album format only, no individual cards were issued as was the case w/the 1923-24 TG Cuban League set. Teams are: Red Sox, Athletics, Senators, White Sox, Indians, Yankees, Browns, Phillies, Royals, Pirates, Dodgers, Giants, Cardinals, Braves, Cubs and Tigers. The stars, legends and HOF members in this album are numerous, some of the keys are: Babe Ruth, Connie Mack, Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Casey Stengel, Tris Speaker, Walter Johnson, John McGraw, Hugh Jennings, Frank Chance, George Sisler, Pie Traynor, just to name a few. Many of the pitcher's images found in this album were also used to produce their 1924 Diaz Cigarettes cards (an issue featuring MLB pitchers exclusively). Front cover text is in bright gold lettering. Cover has obvious scattered wear to the fabric w/some of the cardboard underneath exposed. First page (Red Sox) and last page (Cardinals) have margin wear w/some missing paper but only to borders, images in no way affected. The remaining pages have some scattered aging, mostly to the reverse text sides, photo pages remain bright and glossy w/minimal handling wear. The "varnish-like finish" to the photo pages varies in intensity from page to page but all is as printed. All player images remain bold and sharp. Cover is Good, pages overall VG-Fine. An exceptional album and a must have for collectors of both Cuban and American baseball material, and the perfect compliment to the 1923-24 TG album. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
