Item Description
1-5/8x2-3/8" Cuban card from set distributed in packs of Diaz cigarettes. The cards in this set feature players from the 1923-1924 Cuban Professional League. 85 cards are in the set, the largest and one of the scarcest of all 1920s Cuban card issues. Printed in dark brown w/photo on front along w/team, player name and position "Almendares B.B.C. Almeida Infielder." Card back includes number and description of the series w/offer for an album. Margin trim but both sides of card remain clean and image is bold. Almeida played third base for the Cincinnati Reds from 1910-1913. Almeida along with Armando Marsans debuted together with the Reds on July 4, 1911. Six years before Cincinnati, Almeida and Marsans both played in the United States as 1905 members of the integrated All Cubans. Almeida was inducted into the Cuban Baseball HOF in its 1939 inaugural class. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
