Item Description
Pair of 2x2-5/8" Cuban cards issued as a premium by Billiken brand cigars. Cards in this set feature players from the 1923-1924 Cuban Professional League. The set includes 15 cards each for the four teams that participated that season: Almendares, Habana, Marianao, Santa Clara. Glossy fronts feature a bw photo, player's name and team. Back of the cards have an ad for "Billiken." Cards in this set are among the scarcest and most popular of the pre-war Cuban issues. This is a variant pair for the same player, one of him in Habana Lions uniform and the other is Almendares Scorpions. Both have strong and bold images. "Hooks" Jimenez not only played for several Cuban teams but several Negro League teams as well including the Cuban Stars (East and West). He was inducted into the Cuban HOF in 1951. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
