Item Description
Lacquered papier-mache snuff box 3-5/8" dia by .75" deep. "Andrew Jackson" and "Martin Van Buren" formed the Democratic Party ticket in 1832. "Henry Clay" was the nominee of the National Republican Party. The party's V.P. nominee was John Sergeant, but in 1832 "Daniel Webster" was a major ally of Clay in opposing Jackson's economic policies, most notably Jackson's campaign against the Second Bank Of The United States. The lid has all over hairline crazing as typical with only a few small areas of lacquer off to the left and above Van Buren. Upper edge has thin rub of black color missing only 1/8x.5" long. Small loss of black lacquer where the lid edge fits over the bottom recessed rim. However, this shows little as this is either on the outer side edge or the inner lower rim which is covered when the lid is in place. The lid fits very snugly and pressing it completely closed can make re-opening a bit difficult. No cracks. Overall, Fine and rare. Julie Powell Collection.
