Item Description
c. 1950s. 16.5x18” thin art board has 16” x18” image area in India ink and gouache. Superb graphics have alien space man at upper left and detailed robot w/articulated fingers carrying scantily clad female in torn clothes at lower right w/moon and Saturn in background. Main portion of title has electrified style hand lettering. Full title reads "Milo Brandon The Man From Mars And His Big Mystery Show Of Outer Sapce." Art is initialed “AAA” at lower right, otherwise unsigned. Blank bottom margin has pencil printing notations, including poster printing company name “Central Show Mason City ”. Magician Arthur Brandon toured w/traveling shows starting in the 1930s, changing his name to “Milo Brandon” in the 1940s. In the 1950s he came up w/this new space show theme to stay current, performing in the very same theaters that were playing Sci-fi movies (a la Spook Shows). Blank margin edges have minor aging and dust soil. Image area will mat and frame to Exc. appearance. A classic design done during the height of the Sci-fi movie craze.
