Item Description
10.25x25.75 frame contains original pen and ink art by Milton Caniff. In addition to pen and ink art, three of the four panels feature areas of blue ink wash, indicating to the engraver as to where there would be a mechanical gray tone. Art is for July 13, 1935 and is dated in first panel w/Chicago Tribune/NY News Syndicate copyright paste-over in last panel. Art has been professionally matted and framed under UV glass, w/"Terry And The Pirates" title and "Wherefore Art Thou, Romeo Ryan?" story title nicely displayed. Terry and Connie are pictured in each panel and Pat Ryan is mentioned in every panel as Terry and Connie are waiting in a hotel for him to turn up. The "Terry And The Pirates" daily strip began in 1934; this is a nice early example of this classic comic strip. Exc. From the Jan Wahl Collection.
