Auction #211 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1196 in auction 211
Item Description
1.25" with outstanding brilliant multicolor which includes a small illustration bottom center of Teddy Roosevelt in Rough Rider uniform holding a saber aloft as he charges on his white horse. While the button displays Essentially Mint there are three small surface flaws. There is a vertical hairline that runs top to bottom about .25" left of center. There are also three light scratches on McKinley. There is .25" hairline on the side of his head, a 1/16" hairline by his mouth, and a .25" hairline on the left of his jacket. None of these are deep although they do show in reflected light. The rest of the button is largely Mint as made and this is one of the few examples of this design which is perfectly centered. This fact alone makes it a rarity. In addition this example is complete with its Baltimore Badge back paper which is the original, although the back collet has the "Phelps 1899" patent date. The celluloid has a mirror-like gloss and beautiful intense color. The Hake 2004 revised prices value is $1,200.00. Overall Extremely Fine but displaying Mint.
