Item Description
10.75x15" artboard w/separate paper overlay (marked "U.S.S. DeLong #1722") has original mixed media art depicting the main box lid art for 1970s Lindberg model kit featuring the USS DeLong (DE-684), a Rudderow-class destroyer escort launched Nov. 23, 1943 (commissioned Dec. 31, 1943). It was named after Weldon Fader DeLong, who was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for his action at Guadalcanal. During World War II the DeLong served primarily as a training ship for officers and men that were about to embark on ships assigned to anti-submarine warfare duties. In early 1946 DeLong was decommissioned and assigned to the Reserve Fleet at Green Cove Springs, FL. Art shows the ship at sea, launching two depths charges, w/other depth charges exploding, sending up geysers of water. Art is unsigned. Large image area measures 9.25x14.25". Margins have printing labels and scattered pencil notations that could be easily matted out. Art is NM and would look stunning framed. Impressive model kit art.
