Item Description
15/16" holed as issued. This example is close to DeWitt 1860-23. However, DeWitt's #23 has a plain outer edge and this example has a reeded edged. Brass rims are dulled but both still with much luster. The Breckinridge ferrotype has several diagonal scratches with one hairline showing from 10 o'clock to 4 o'clock. Many other tiny marks show with magnification the worst of which is a 1/16" hairline of emulsion gone below his eye on the left. Image still displays nicely with good contrast. The Lane side is darker but still clean. Under magnification there are many craze lines in the emulsion but no emulsion loss. Overall Very Good to Fine and the scarcest of the 1860 ferrotypes produced for the four competing parties. Julie Powell Collection.
