Item Description
First is 5/8" reading "S.A. Contest/Boost The Reds." Letters "S.A." stand for Socialist Appeal, the name of a newspaper published by American Trotskyists from 1935 to 1941. Publication was edited by Albert Goldman. Button is NM and displays Mint. Second is 1.25" button with metal back and bar pin. This reads "Committee For Industrial Organization/Allis-Chalmers/9 Apr-May-Jun 37/No. 14010." Button has its roots in the activities of Harold Christoffel who began working at the company in 1929 and who became active in the Young Peoples' Socialist League in 1934. He began union activities at the company and helped to organize electrical workers becoming President of the group Allis-Chalmers Federal Union, American Federation of Labor in 1937.
